******Another Letter From a Fellow RED DEVIL****** To the brethren of the Parachute Infantry, Diablos Rojos. As the day comes to a close, a memory shall return to me. It was one of the happiest, yet most painful memories that I have ever endured. Most that knew me in those days, knew of my birth place, Panama. I doubt any would have imagined that I walked the streets surrounding the Comandancia decades before that night, and following days in 1989. Growing up poor in the Santa Ana District making a dime to help support your mother and sisters was never part of my conversation with my peers. Watching Roberto Duran, former General Torrijos, and yes the ultimate evil Noriega, just a few feet from me was part of a history that few would ever know. I saw our operation differently than those around me. Having lost my aunt, nephew, niece and their father was a price they paid for opposing a vile regime. Although a sad event, I carry their memory with me, and those whom were next to me, focused on removing a man that violated all laws of humanity against his own people and those whom we called a brother in arms. Although not a citizen of the US at the time of our operation, my brothers saw me as their own, a Red Devil willing to take the fight to the enemy. Because of them, and our leaders the evil was removed, and Panama is today a thriving economy where democratic ideals are debated daily in their national assembly, the canal larger, all the signs that in my opinion say that our actions were a Just Cause. No matter how history may define our actions, or those that were never there speak about us, Panama is free today from a reign of terror, you can beat that. I saw Chorrillo burn that morning, and my soul cried, tears fell, but the spirit of the Airbone Infantry pushed me forward, IOT complete our tasks. I shall always be proud to say that I served amongst America's best, Red Devils in baggy pants, in the Airborne Infantry. As I remember our past, I pray to our Lord for your successful future in all your endeavors. Anytime, anywhere, with the speed of thunder. R/ Edgardo A.
